An agent spends less through Archis than reading the files itself.

• ImprovedThis is the release where that stopped being a claim about retrieval and became a measurement of a bill. On a twelve-file task run three times an arm with Claude Sonnet 5 at high effort, measured on 0.16.0: 353,518 tokens through Archis against 734,109 on the agent's own tools, with the most expensive Archis run below the cheapest control run. Round trips fell from 18 to 9.7.
• ImprovedSource code no longer travels escaped inside a JSON string, where every newline, tab and quote is charged as its own token. Escaped, reading a file in full cost more than the client reading the file itself; it now costs about the same.
• ImprovedThe three-pass strategy — outline what is in scope, name the symbols that matter and fetch them together, take exact bytes only for what is left — is delivered in the connection handshake, which every client places in front of the model before its first decision. It used to ride on a tool that measured runs never called once.
• FixedA token budget now binds a single-file request. A run asked for 2,000 tokens of one file and was handed 6,600.
• FixedThe session ledger charged for content the answer never carried, which could overspend an exact-source budget more than twice over and then refuse the reads that followed. Being refused costs far more than being given less: blocked at that wall, one run spent six turns recovering under three thousand characters.
• FixedA repository checked out on a feature branch was answering out of main — silently, and with content plausible enough not to look wrong.
