Every version, and what it changed for you.
63 releases since 25 Jul 2026. Breaking changes say what to do about them, and a version that rebuilds your index says so at the top.
Archis updates itself: chi update checks what is published, verifies the release hash before writing anything, and puts the previous binary back if the new one does not start. chi update --check installs nothing.
0.45.0
Archis reaches the desktop apps. Claude Desktop, the Codex app and JetBrains Air each connect the way they actually start a server — measured against the running application — and a chat client can now serve a different repository in every conversation. Four more languages stop being read as text: Haskell, TOML, CSS and HTML.
Before you upgrade — Update, then re-index the repositories where Haskell, TOML, CSS or HTML live:
chi index --full. A file that has not changed keeps the index it already has, so the new readings arrive with the rebuild and not before it.- LanguagesHaskell, TOML, CSS and HTML stop being read as text. Each one answers what a file declares, what it calls, the types it uses and what it implements — a Haskell class is read as the interface and an instance as its implementation, a stylesheet answers with its selectors and custom properties, and an HTML element is named by the string another file reaches it with. Every one was measured against an independent oracle rather than against Archis's own output.
chi statusreports what Archis can claim about each. - LanguagesProtocol Buffers is read fully rather than structurally: declarations at any depth, the calls a service makes, the types a message uses, and what extends what.
- NewThe desktop applications are supported, and each one was measured rather than assumed.
chi agents on claude, chi agents on codexandchi agents on airnow register every surface of an agent that is present on this machine — the terminal CLI, Claude Desktop, the Codex app, JetBrains Air — and each surface is registered the way that application actually starts a server. Two of the three turned out to contradict what a desktop app is supposed to do: the Codex app and JetBrains Air both start the server inside the project you have open, so they need nothing special, while Claude Desktop has no folder open at all and is the reason the next two entries exist. - NewA chat client can serve a different repository in every conversation.
chi agents on claude --surface desktop --workspace-root <directory>authorizes a directory — "the repositories under here are fair game" — without pinning any of them and without indexing anything. The model gets aworkspacestool listing what it can reach and passes the one it wants on each call, so two conversations in the same application can work in two different repositories at the same time. Repeat the flag for several directories. - NewA registration can be pinned to one repository with
chi agents on <agent> --base-dir <path>, for an application that cannot say which repository a turn is for. It is opt-in and it has a cost — it pins that registration to that one repository until you run the command again — which is why it is not the default, and why--workspace-rootis the better answer for a client you hold several conversations in. - New
chi agents checkmeasures each surface separately and reports what the registration is actually bound to, rather than reporting that a file was written. For an agent with more than one way to run, you get one report per surface, and--surfacenarrows it to the one you care about. - NewCodex gets hooks, the same way Claude Code already had them.
- FixedAn agent session resumed after a long pause no longer loses access. A credential renewal that was not saved could revoke the whole family of them, which ended a session that had done nothing wrong; renewal now happens once even when several processes ask at the same moment.
- FixedA licence problem no longer kills the MCP server. It reports the problem and keeps serving what it can, instead of taking the connection down with it.
- FixedEditors are no longer told to install a command-line tool they do not have. The first of the checks asked every agent for a binary on
PATH, so Cursor and JetBrains Air — editors people run every day with nothing of theirs onPATH— reported a working setup as incomplete and told you to install an application you were looking at. - FixedRegistering a desktop application no longer reports the terminal CLI as out of date. They share an agent row but not a configuration file, and registering one was overwriting what Archis knew about the other.
- FixedLeftovers from the product's former name are found and cleared. A briefing block and an MCP registration naming a server that no longer exists survived the rename on machines that had it, and every client reading that file kept starting a server that could not start.
chi doctornames the registration and gives the one-line fix.
