Every version, and what it changed for you.
63 releases since 25 Jul 2026. Breaking changes say what to do about them, and a version that rebuilds your index says so at the top.
Archis updates itself: chi update checks what is published, verifies the release hash before writing anything, and puts the previous binary back if the new one does not start. chi update --check installs nothing.
0.49.0
Every answer now fits what your agent can show, the files that matter rank higher, and Windows builds are back.
Before you upgrade — Update, then reopen your agent window so it starts the new version. Your existing indexes are kept. The savings figure is measured more strictly from this version on and will read lower; see below.
- NewWindows builds are published again with this version.
- ImprovedAsking for the code of a task finds the right files more often. Over a few hundred real issues from dozens of open-source repositories, the file that had to change ranked noticeably higher than in 0.48.0. The same question also gets the same answer every time.
- ImprovedFaster on large repositories. Looking up symbols by name and searching for text across the whole repository take a fraction of the time they did, and indexing large C headers is quicker.
- ImprovedThe savings figure is stricter. Looking at one function used to count as having avoided reading its whole file; it now counts only that function. The number Archis reports will be lower than in earlier versions for the same work. That is the measurement being more honest, not Archis saving less. The closing line also says when calls failed, and why, instead of blaming the index.
- FixedAnswers no longer outgrow what your agent will display. A large file, outline or search result used to come back bigger than the client accepts, so the agent saw an error and read the files itself instead. Answers are now cut to fit and say what was left out. A file that was cut can be fetched in parts with a line range, and Archis no longer treats it as already delivered.
- FixedThe Archis server no longer dies on the first request after your agent has been idle for a long time. When nothing happens for ten minutes it now closes its files and reopens them on the next request.
- FixedReading exact source no longer stops dead once a task has read a lot of it. Past that point you still get the code, one manageable piece at a time, instead of a refusal that pushed the agent to read whole files on its own.

Archis Free is the whole local engine, with no card. Everything semantic runs on your machine — there is no endpoint that accepts source.
