Every version, and what it changed for you.
63 releases since 25 Jul 2026. Breaking changes say what to do about them, and a version that rebuilds your index says so at the top.
Archis updates itself: chi update checks what is published, verifies the release hash before writing anything, and puts the previous binary back if the new one does not start. chi update --check installs nothing.
0.21.0
The same budget buys twice as much of your repository.
Before you upgrade — Your index rebuilds itself the first time you open it after upgrading, automatically. If you have built your own tooling on Archis's MCP responses, check which fields it reads before you upgrade.
- BreakingOne exploration call now returns about twice as much code for the same token budget. More than half of what Archis sent was a preamble in front of every piece of code, repeating per symbol what the response already said once. Measured on 0.21.0 at an identical ceiling: five questions that returned 103 pieces of code now return 224.
- BreakingFields that repeated other fields are gone from what
compact_select,containsandsearchreturn, which is where that room came from. If you have built anything of your own on Archis's responses, read the file path fromfileon a selected symbol and fromfiles[].pathon acontainsgroup;ir_hash,canonical_name,tokensandmatchedno longer appear. Your agent needs no change, and gets more for the budget it asks for: the samesearchcall returned 15 hits and now returns 18, and acontainsanswer costs three-quarters of what it did. - NewThe exploration answer opens with the ranked files, best first, not only with the code that fits. The code Archis can afford to send stops at the budget, and the file your answer is in was often just past that line — a path costs a fraction of what a piece of code costs, so paying for the list is close to free. Measured on 0.21.0 over 1,241 questions drawn from 63 repositories Archis was never tuned on, at an identical token ceiling: the right file is in the answer for 74% of them against 50% before, better in 61 repositories and worse in none.
- New
chi loginnow registers Archis with the coding agents on your machine instead of telling you to. It asks first, because it edits another product's configuration. This was the step nothing offered to do and the gap did not look like one: the CLI worked, the licence was valid, chi overviewprinted your repository, and the agent that was supposed to be using all of it went on reading files. Restart your agent afterwards so it re-reads its configuration — that is the one part that cannot happen on its own. - NewEmail reminders go out three days before a subscription ends, then two, then one. The person who most needs to know their access is about to change is the one who is not running Archis this week, and no message inside the CLI reaches them.
- New
chi discoverreads Codex CLI sessions as well as Claude Code's, so the measurement of what your agents spend covers an agent Archis cannot install a hook into. Run it with no path to read every agent's transcripts together, in the order the work happened. - ImprovedAn exploration call answers in about a quarter of the time — measured on 0.21.0 over a repository of some 13,000 symbols, 480 ms against 1,993 ms for the same five questions — while returning twice as much.
- ImprovedA question phrased as a question ranks better, and a single identifier still puts the symbol with that name first. The ranking trained on real repositories is now on by default; what had kept it off was that a bare name is the one case its training could not contain, and that case is now decided before the ranking runs. Search also considers four times as many candidates before ranking them, which costs a fraction of a second against a model turn of several.
- ImprovedA licence that is running out says so once a day, not before every command, and never in CI or in a pipe. It also says so where it matters: your agent is told at the start of a session, and every connected client is told which repository Archis holds and whether it is indexed, so a lapsed licence stops being a session where Archis's tools silently are not there.
- FixedAn index written by an older version of Archis rebuilds itself instead of failing. Opening it reported an internal database error where a rebuild was the right answer — and this release changes the index format, so that was the path every upgrade was about to take.
